| Since 2004, Hull photographer and printmaker Stephen Lathrop has been at work on a series of ocean images. “These seem well matched to the advantages of digital capture—you can make big prints, available detail can fit within the limits of digital resolution, there is flexibility to cope with dynamic lighting, and the subject presents image opportunities that repay both depth of field and fast shutter speeds. Before digital capture, no photographic format featured all these capabilities together; now they are there, at least somewhat, and subtly different kinds of images seem newly possible.” |
